Getting to Moraine Lake
Moraine Lake Road is closed to private vehicles from June 1 to October 12, 2026, and a shuttle is the only way in. One of the easiest options is the Moraine Lake Bus Company, which offers guaranteed parking and direct shuttles from Samson Mall (Lake Louise Village) and the Lake Louise Summer Gondola parking areas.

The trail begins where you’ll get dropped off and climbs a series of rock-built stairs. At the top, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views over Moraine Lake and the surrounding mountain peaks.
This is the classic postcard viewpoint you’ve probably seen before, and it’s even more impressive in person!
Best Time to Visit Moraine Lake in 2026
The best time to visit depends on the experience you’re looking for. The sunrise shuttle offers the opportunity to visit with the smallest crowds and to witness the stunning changing light from the sunrise. The afternoon is best for the postcard-blue lake and warmer temperatures.
Mountain weather can change quickly, even in summer, so layers are always recommended, especially for early morning departures.
